Overview
If your GP has put your medication on repeat, you can request it regularly without needing a new consultation each time. This page explains how to order your repeat prescriptions, what to do if you need them earlier than usual, and other ways to request them if you can’t use the NHS App.
How to order a repeat prescription
Using the NHS App
- Log in: Open the NHS App and sign in.
- Request a medication: Go to the ‘Request repeat prescriptions’ section.
- Select your medicine: Tick the medication(s) you need.
- Submit your request: This goes to your GP for review and approval.
- Electronic prescription: Once approved, your prescription is sent electronically to the pharmacy you’ve chosen in the app.
Please allow time for the pharmacy to process and prepare your medication. It’s best to order your prescription at least five working days before you run out.
Ordering early
Lockout period
- You can usually only order up to seven days before your medication is due.
If you need it sooner
- Medication Request Form: If you need your prescription earlier, fill in our online Medication Request Form. Our pharmacy team will check your request before it’s approved.
- Frequent early requests: If you often need your prescription earlier than scheduled, please speak to our pharmacy team. They can adjust your repeat settings to better suit your needs.
Other ways to request your prescription
By email
- Request forms are available from the surgery. Complete one and email it back to us.
Paper form
- You can also collect a paper request form at reception and hand it back in once completed.
Collecting your medication
When you collect your medication from the pharmacy, you may receive a white slip listing all your repeat medicines. Tick the boxes for any medication you need next time and hand the slip to reception to request your repeat prescription.
